It is worth a look just to check on what is considered jazz. I was surprised to find “Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer” and “O Little Town Of Bethlehem!” For our purposes, JAZZ means ensemble or traditional jazz standards, Dixieland, ragtime, jazzed-up Broadway show tunes and ballads. Or it might be a jazzed up version of your own song.

SUNDAY JAZZ JAM
A few basement musicians with a love for jazz will be playing and singing their favourite jazz standards on Sunday afternoons this summer. This workshop-style jazz jam is an opportunity for musicians and singers, and possibly an audience, to meet on Sunday afternoons in the relaxed atmosphere of the Atrium of the Rotary Centre for the Arts. Like the Basement Musicians group, this jam is open to everyone. The session starts at 2pm. If you are interested in attending as a player or singer, or just want to come for a cup of tea and listen to some jazz on Sunday afternoon, do drop in. There is no fee to participate, but donations are welcome. A piano and drum kit will be available, also a microphone for vocalists. Jazz and bass guitars can be amplified. Otherwise, most will be acoustic instruments. This is a great opportunity to get those instruments out of the closet make music again.
